CURRENCY ADVICE
The currency in Latvia is the Lat, which is roughly equivalent to one pound sterling.
Do not bring Euros and US dollars.
By law, outlets are not allowed to accept foreign currency as a payment and very rarely will you be able to pay for
anything in a currency other than Latvian Lats.
You don't need to obtain Latvian Lats whilst in UK. It is regarded by some banks as "exotic" currency and they will charge you unreasonably high commission.
We advise that you bring Sterling and exchange it locally.
The best way is to use the local ATM machines and withdraw cash on your UK credit/debit card.
The bank normally gives you the best exchange rate. |
